Wood Dale burglary suspect still missing
A burglary suspect who was the subject of an exhaustive manhunt in Lombard remained at large Wednesday as his accomplice was locked up on $200,000 bail, authorities said.
Chicago residents Eugene Saunders, 32, and Nakia Tyler, 36, are accused of breaking into a Wood Dale home Monday with plans to steal a bag of money they believed to be hidden inside an air vent, prosecutors said in court.
Police captured Tyler as he tried to flee, but Saunders took off in a green Chevy Malibu, which was involved in a rollover crash near downtown Lombard about 13 hours later, police said.
Accompanied by a helicopter and K-9 units, several police agencies spent hours Tuesday morning scouring a wooded residential area in Lombard where Saunders was last seen.
On Wednesday, Wood Dale Deputy Police Chief Mike Rivas said there was no longer a concentrated search in Lombard but that police were still following leads on Saunders' whereabouts.
According to court records, the burglary took place at the George Street home of a felon with reputed gang ties who is awaiting trial in DuPage on gun-related charges.
Judge Elizabeth Sexton set bail Wednesday at $200,000 for Tyler, meaning he would have to post $20,000 to get out of jail.
Tyler has been charged with residential burglary and conspiracy. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 6 before Judge Daniel Guerin.
