Police: Batavia man, 20, admits armed robbery attempt
A 20-year-old Batavia man turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon and admitted he approached a woman at an ATM while armed with a gun, police said. Zachary D. Schulz walked into the lobby of the Batavia Police Department about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon and told detectives he was the suspect, police said.
A 42-year-old Batavia woman was conducting a transaction at a drive-through ATM at the Chase Bank, 130 S. Batavia Ave., early Tuesday morning when she saw an armed man approach her, according to police.
The victim drove away unharmed after the robbery attempt, which occurred about 2 a.m., and provided police with a description of the man.
Schulz matched the victim’s description, according to police.
Schulz was charged with attempted armed robbery and is being held at the Batavia Police Department. He is due in bond court Wednesday.
