Cops: Parolee caught fleeing St. Charles home after break-in

A parolee with a history of residential burglary convictions was arrested by St. Charles police Monday morning as he fled a home after ransacking it, according to police.

A resident of the home on the 2700 block of Turnberry Road heard glass breaking in the basement shortly after spotting a man wearing a green safety vest looking into a rear sliding glass door, according to police. The resident ran upstairs and hid in a bedroom while calling 911, police said.

Officers responding to the call at 10:17 a.m. spotted Aric A. Liberati, of the 2300 block of Twilight Drive in Aurora, running from the residence and began chasing him on foot, police said.

Officers arrested the 35-year-old man after a chase through a wooded area and then north along the east side of Kirk Road, police said.

During the break-in, the resident told police he heard the intruder pry open the basement door and ransack the residence room by room, according to police.

He then heard the man walk down the stairs and out the front door, police said.

Liberati was charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property. He appeared in bond court Tuesday, where a judge set bail at $500,000.

Liberati was on parole after being released from prison on March 6 on a possession of a controlled substance conviction, according to Illinois Department of Corrections records.

He was also convicted on two separate residential burglary charges, the first in 1998 in Cook County, the second in 2004 in DuPage County, according to prison records.
