Countryside Fire District hosts BBQ in Mundelein

The Countryside Fire District hosted the Red Hot BBQ at their Station One in Mundelein this past weekend and reminded all attendees that "Gasoline and Fire Never Mix."

Local Girl Scout Troops helped with clean up and serving popsicles to all the children.

The BBQ was a free event that provided free hot dogs, chips and refreshments while informing about alternative ways to build a fire, whether it is a campfire or a charcoal grill.

At this time, Countryside Fire District is not permitting open burns within the fire district due to the dry conditions of the area.

"Too many adults are still using gasoline to start a fire," Tony Rodkey, Public Education Coordinator, was telling participants.

Rodkey also stated, "Using gasoline is generational, it is passed on to the next of kin. Children learn from what parents do."

The Countryside Fire District Firefighters gave station tours and had children sitting in the fire trucks.

"This BBQ was an excellent opportunity to reaching out to our residents in the western area of our fire district," Rodkey added.
