Bike trail can’t be done by group alone
The residents of Carpentersville have been sold out to a bunch of Chicago mountain bike riders on just a promise. Their promise is to fund, build, regulate and police a five-mile mountain bike trail in a small 25-acre town park.
The town of Carpentersville has not maintained this park area for more than 40 years because of its harsh terrain and access.
CAMBr, a Chicago-based mountain bike club, came into town with guns blazing and a sugarcoated promise to clean up the area that drug dealers, gang bangers and violent criminals use on a daily basis.
The Carpentersville board and especially Village President Ed Ritter (it’s his pet project,) have overwhelmingly supported this plan. CAMBr, which just for the first time June 19 gave a presentation to the board, was looking forward to a unanimous “yes” vote but now has to wait until July 10 for the outcome.
The promises of CAMBr to take all the work upon themselves and to just about fully pay all the expenses sounds like a Walt Disney movie.
No doubt this is a favorable flimflam pitch that the board has swallowed hook, line and sinker. In the end, we, the residents of Carpentersville, again will end up paying out our hard working tax dollars for this fairy tale dream.
