Swanson retires at District 50
One of Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50’s top administrators, Anne Swanson, has retired. Swanson spent the last 12 of her 20 years in education at Woodland. “I am very much looking forward to this change and new opportunities, but will always remember Woodland with great fondness,” Swanson said. She most recently worked as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and accountability. Swanson said she was pleased to leave the district with continuously improving student achievement, a strong and well-articulated advanced and challenge program, a large number of children who complete Algebra I by the end of eighth grade and the Spanish I program that involves collaboration with Warren Township High School. Swanson is credited with pioneering the district’s dual language program that will start in kindergarten this fall. Swanson has also taught in Virginia, North Carolina, New York, Korea and Germany.
