Wheaton Municipal Band to belt out a brassy, sassy program July 19

The steamy 2012 season of the Wheaton Municipal Band continues with a rousing concert on Thursday, July 19 at 8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Park band shell in downtown Wheaton. Don't miss this outstanding concert, which features some of the best concert band music written. Musical director Dr. Bruce Moss shows off the band's fantastic brass section with music of Giovanni Gabrieli and a brass symphony by Herbert Haufrecht. Those who love Broadway Musicals can sing along to the music of “Gypsy.” Beloved marches and music of the masters Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Gordon Jacob complete the program.

The featured soloist of the evening is James Garcia, a long-time member of the band's clarinet section. Garcia, a resident of the Lakeview area in Chicago, has gladly commuted to Wheaton every summer for the last 9 years to play in the band. Garcia will perform "Solo de Concours" by Andre-Charles Messager. “I chose this work to perform, because it is a piece that executes all the major aspects of musicianship: Fast clean playing, slower expressive musical phrasing, all in a short period of time,” said Garcia.

Don't miss this exciting concert on Thursday, July 19 at 8:00 p.m. Come early, bring a picnic and enjoy the idyllic setting of the Wheaton Municipal Band in Memorial Park.
