Boomers roll to 9-2 victory
The Schaumburg Boomers batted around in the first inning, scoring 6 runs with two outs on the way to a 9-2 victory over the host Normal CornBelters on Thursday night.
Normal starter Tyler Lavigne (3-2) recorded only two outs in the first before the heat got to him. Karexon Sanchez walked to open the game and Sean Mahley followed with a single.
Both runners were moved up on a sacrifice bunt, and with two outs Chad Mozingo lined a triple to left-center, handing Schaumburg the lead.
Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Mike Valadez, who hit a single to center on the first offering from Normal reliever Brendon Smith before Jereme Milons capped the scoring with a double off the wall in left.
Robby Donovan (5-1) earned the win, battling through 6 innings, walking six and striking out six.
Donovan won his fourth straight decision and allowed just a 2-run, second-inning homer to Chico Gomez.
Mahley led off the second with a single, stole third and scored on an error to make the lead 7-0. Sanchez drove home Nate Baumann in the fifth, while Baumann used a groundout to drive home the final run in the sixth.
All but two Boomers in the lineup posted hits with four logging more than 1.
