Car runs red light, strikes bus in West Chicago
Two people were injured when a car ran a red light and collided with a school bus at the corner of Route 59 and Forest Avenue in West Chicago early Wednesday, authorities said.
Police said the vehicles collided about 8 a.m. as the bus crossed Route 59 on Forest Avenue with a green light. It was struck by a red Chevy Cavalier, which was northbound on Route 59, West Chicago Sgt. Spencer Kroning said at the scene.
The four children on the bus and the driver were not injured. They were heading to a summer program at Pioneer Elementary School at 615 Kenwood Ave. in West Chicago, he said.
The driver and passenger of the car were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Their injuries were not life-threatening injuries, Kroning said.
The car collided with the front driver's side of the bus, sustaining damage to its front bumper and windshield. Both of the car's front air bags were deployed.
Police blocked off about a three-block section of Route 59 during cleanup and investigation of the crash. Traffic was detoured onto the parallel Oak Street one block to the West. Traffic was back to normal on Route 59 by 10 a.m.
