Celebrate Rainbow Hospice's 'Promises Take Flight' butterfly public art program

On Wednesday, June 20, over 60 butterfly sculptures were unveiled at Rainbow Hospice headquarters in Mount Prospect as part of the “Promises Take Flight” project.

Each butterfly was sponsored by an individual or family, local businesses, organization or other group. Each group designed and decorated their statue, which are made of fiberglass and are approximately 3 feet tall. The funds raised by the project will go to benefit Rainbow Hospice's Good Mourning Program for Children, Teens and Families.

Rainbow Hospice provides comfort and dignity for individuals at the end of their lives. The organization recently moved their headquarters to Mount Prospect and to celebrate the move, the have planned for this Public Art Project that will be on display throughout the Summer of 2012 in Mount Prospect, Des Plaines and Park Ridge.

After the unveiling, the decorated sculptures will go on display in Park Ridge, Des Plaines and Mount Prospect and remain there until October.

The Village of Mount Prospect is planning a “Butterfly Premiere Party” from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday June 27.

The public is invited to come to Moehling Park (next to Capannari Ice Cream at 10 S. Pine in Mount Prospect) to celebrate the butterfly exhibit, get a map of the butterfly locations and participate in fun butterfly crafts. More information is available at experiencemountprospect.org.

Another fun event is planned for July 6. “The Butterfly Express” is an event co-sponsored by the Village of Mount Prospect and the City of Park Ridge and encourages people to ride the Metra between Mount Prospect and Park Ridge.

Exciting events are taking place in both locations.

Mount Prospect is hosting a “Friday on the Green” concert at Mount Prospect Village Hall, 50 S. Emerson St. featuring Suburban Cowboys from 6 to 8 p.m. In Park Ridge, the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce is holding a “First Fridays Cruisin' Park Ridge” car show from 6 to 9 p.m., where more than 200 cars are expected to line the closed streets.
