Boomers pass up ThunderBolts
After spotting the Windy City ThunderBolts 4 runs before taking a swing Tuesday, the first-place Schaumburg Boomers scored 7 unanswered runs to claim a 7-4 victory Tuesday at Boomers Stadium.
The outcome helped the Boomers (19-11) extend their lead to 2 games over the Thunderbolts and River City Rascals in the Frontier League’s West Division.
Schaumburg also improved 14-4 at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.
The Boomers scored twice in the first, and third baseman Frank Pfister tied things with a 2-run homer in the third inning.
Karexon Sanchez reached base four times, collecting 2 singles and 2 walks with 3 runs scored from the leadoff spot for Boomers manager Jamie Bennett. Chad Mozingo added a pair of hits for the hosts and Steve McQuail, who made his first appearance in the outfield with the Boomers, drove in a pair of runs.
Right-hander Joe Parsons (2-1, 1.53) threw 2 strong innings in relief of Shane Prance to earn the victory for Schaumburg. Patrick Mincey tossed a scoreless inning to earn his fifth save of the season.
The Boomers travel to Joliet on Wednesday to begin a three-game series against the reigning Frontier League champs.
