Mount Prospect man drowns off Virginia Beach

A 56-year-old Mount Prospect man drowned Saturday while swimming in Virginia Beach, Va., authorities confirmed.

Steven L. Henry, 56, was pronounced dead at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital after lifeguards pulled him from the water and performed CPR in an effort to revive him, police said Monday.

Police Information Officer Grazia Moyers said Henry apparently went into the water Saturday afternoon because he believed a relative was in danger. He was overwhelmed by the surf and was unresponsive when later taken from the water.

Henry was in the area visiting relatives, police said.

According to Moyers, red flags indicating dangerous surf were out at the area known as Oceanfront on Saturday. Beach conditions featured high winds with rough waters and a strong rip current.
