Two firefighters hurt in Crystal Lake blaze

Two firefighters were injured Friday battling a blaze that caused roughly $100,000 damage to a house in Crystal Lake.

Both firefighters were taken to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.

One other person was evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but was not taken to a hospital. Fire department officials did not say whether that person was a resident of the home in the 1500 block of Autumncrest Drive.

The fire was reported at 5:38 a.m. Friday and firefighters from the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department arrived on the scene at 5:45 a.m.

They found the fire in the house's garage extending to its second floor. The blaze took about 90 minutes to extinguish, authorities said.

The fire left the home uninhabitable, authorities said, and its cause is under investigation. Residents are receiving housing assistance from the Red Cross.
