Glenview pool remains closed after 4-year-old’s death

The 4-year-old boy who died after being pulled from a Glenview pool was identified Saturday as Vincente Cardenas of the 2300 block of Chestnut Avenue in Glenview, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Vincente was pulled from the Glenview Park District’s Roosevelt Pool Friday afternoon, according to Glenview police, who would only say Saturday that they are conducting a death investigation. The boy was taken to Glenbrook Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:49 p.m. Friday.

Once the child was pulled from the pool unresponsive at 2:35 p.m., Glenview Park District lifeguards began performing CPR before paramedics arrived, according to the park district. Roosevelt Pool closed after the episode and would remain closed throughout Saturday to allow police to perform their investigation, park district Executive Director Chuck Balling said in a news release.

“We are all very saddened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to this little boy’s family,” Balling said. “This is a tragedy for the family and for the entire community.”

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy Saturday on Vincente to determine his cause of death.
