Pfister, Boomers force the issue
The Schaumburg Boomers scored seven times in the first inning, Frank Pfister hit a pair of home runs and the pitching staff held the Rockford RiverHawks scoreless as the hosts improved to 12-2 at Boomers Stadium with an 11-0 victory Friday night.
The force was certainly with the first-place Boomers (17-9) on Star Wars night as the home team took control of the game early and never looked back en route to a well-deserved win over the visiting RiverHawks (9-16).
Pfister belted a 3-run blast early and took the first pitch he saw from reliever Nelson Curry out of the ballpark in the eighth as he collected 4 RBI in the contest.
On the mound for the Boomers, it was the second shutout of the season for Robby Donovan, who improved to 3-1. The former Houston Astros farmhand surrendered just 6 hits over 6 innings of work and added 4 strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 3.96.
