Bin Laden may have the last laugh

As I watch President Bush with his wife, Laura, on the evening news unveiling their portraits with President Obama and Michelle Obama, I think to myself: “We had it all.”

Just like the song, but we screwed up. The United States of America with its rich natural resources and a plentiful water supply.

There they are, making jokes and merriment as they look at the new paintings of the former president and first lady.

Then I think of Iraq and all the deaths on both sides. Lives ruined. Families destroyed. Sooner or later, we will pay the piper.

Imagine a foreign power coming here and doing to us what we did to them. I know I would not rest until I got even — especially if I had lost my family.

We, as a nation, must stop hurting others or eventually we will be destroyed — and Bin Laden will have the last laugh from the grave.
