Kane Bar Association names new president
The Kane County Bar Association recently named a new president and other officers.
Steven D. Titiner, a partner at the Aurora law firm of Truemper & Titiner, which focuses on corporate law, was named president at the association’s annual dinner last week.
He served as general counsel for the bar association and as a board member. His platform for the coming year, according to the bar association, is to maintain the association’s free continuing legal education for members and to focus on pro bono and community services.
Other officers are: Vice President William Engerman, a Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney and Secretary/Treasurer Dean M. Freiders. New board members for the coming year are Carolyn D. Jansons, Lawrence W. Lobb, and James A. Tabor.
Congrats to Clark: Dave Clark, a director on the Executive Board of Administer Justice, recently received the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service.
The award was presented at the 13th Annual Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service Award Ceremony last month.
U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox nominated Clark for his pro bono service and presented him with the award at the federal courthouse in Chicago.
Since January 2011, Clark, an attorney, has been on the board of directors for the Elgin-based Administer Justice, which provided free legal assistance to more than 6,000 people last year.
In 2011, more than 700 people volunteered more than 10,000 hours for the nonprofit group.
Learn about safety: The Campton Hills Kiwanis Club will host a “Community Safety and Awareness” workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 23 at the La Fox Martial Arts Center, 40W089 Route 64, Campton Hills.
La Fox Martial Arts representatives will provide a workshop on personal safety/self-defense, stranger/bully topics, and basic skills and response tactics.
The Campton Hills Police Department will offer a workshop and information on in-home safety for kids, Internet safety, and “Home-Alone” safety/strategies.
The Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District will educate people on pool/water safety, fireworks precautions, fire exit routes, and smoke detectors.
Organizers hope the event will help benefit CASA Kane County, or Court Appointed Special Advocates. They are trained volunteers appointed by judges to advocate for the safety and well-being of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect.
Organizers ask that participants bring a donated item needed by CASA, such as suitcases/overnight bags/backpacks for children and teens, hairbrush and comb set or donation by check.
