Wisconsin voters lead the way

Who’d have thought it would be those “cheeseheads” to the north who’d stand up and fire the “first shot heard ‘round the world”; ricocheting as it has, from nearby Waukesha, to distant Greece, Italy, Germany, and inside every governor’s mansion in every state in America.

The lesson from Wisconsin was basically a simple one, and as old as time itself: “When you’ve killed the golden goose, you’ve nothing left but the bones to pick.” The taxpayers of Wisconsin knew that the time had come when all that was left was to “stand and fight,” or to “have their bones picked.” Let’s hope that the shot that was fired in Wisconsin begins to reverberate throughout every city and town in Illinois, and that it is responded to by millions of Illinois voters who are sick and tired of having their taxes increased, at every turn, only to be wasted by corrupt politicians, buying labor’s support and votes and literally stealing from Illinois’ hardworking taxpayers — most of whom earn their wages in the private sector, where they’re measured by their performance and earn their incomes and merit increases by working hard and exceeding their company’s expectations, growing their businesses.

That’s the kind of “old-fashioned work ethic” that made America the greatest nation on earth and gave working American families the world’s highest standard of living. Where has the other “road to riches” taken us, so far? It has taken away our jobs, and killed personal initiative. It has put Illinois deep in the throes of bankruptcy, causing us to lose hundreds of industries and manufacturing jobs. It has earned us the undisputed title of “The most corrupt state in the union.”

It’s time to admit that we could take a few lessons from “cheeseheads” after all.
