Rascals roar past Boomers

The host Schaumburg Boomers dropped the opener of a three-game series 12-3 against the River City Rascals on Friday night.

The Rascals, who lead the Frontier League’s West Division, jumped ahead with a 5-run fourth inning. The Rascals collected 3 straight hits to open the inning.

The Boomers came back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Rascals batted around again in the fifth, scoring 3 runs to chase starting pitcher Robbie Penny from the game.

Eric Holmes pitched the remainder of the game, tossing the final 4 innings with 2 strikeouts.

Sacrifice flies from Brandon Hairston in the seventh and Sean Mahley in the eighth accounted for the other Boomers runs. Frank Pfister collected 2 hits.
