Support the troops during annual Freedom Bash
Hanover Township will host its eighth annual Operation Support Our Troops: Freedom Bash Friday and Saturday, June 8-9, to benefit the men and women serving in the armed forces overseas.
Donations of goods and supplies for the armed forces will be accepted, while donors enjoy entertainment. Admission is free.
“While the media attention has gone down some, we still have brave servicemen and women overseas who need our support,” said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. “Everyone is invited to drop off donations and stay for some great food, music and games.”
The program from 5-10 p.m. Friday, June 8, includes a Car Show Cruise Night and musical performances by bands The Belvideres and Smokehouse.
From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, the Touch-a-Truck event, with fire engines and police cars, will be available in the morning. Live acting, singing and dancing from The Art Spot will entertain from 9:30-11 a.m. A taekwondo demonstration by students from the Chang Brothers Taekwondo Academy will follow, then Lisa's School of Dance will finish off the Saturday program with dance performances.
Both days will have a military ceremony conducted by local VFW and American Legion posts, plus a beer garden, concession stand, kids play area, indoor bingo and VIP tent for veterans and active military.
For the first time, this year's event will feature a craft show on both days, sponsored in conjunction with Streamwood VFW Post 5151.
