Hanover Township presents Principal of the Year Award
The Hanover Township Committee on Youth presented Morris Mallory with the 2012 Hanover Township Principal of the Year Award at a reception Tuesday, May 15.
Mallory, principal at Gifford Street High School in Elgin, received the award with more than 70 friends, family members, officials and teachers present at the Township Senior Center.
“The township was honored to present Principal Mallory with this award,” said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. “His passion for working with youth and leading Gifford Street’s faculty and staff is something for everyone to admire.”
Gifford Street High School is part of the U-46 Alternative Programs. Principal Mallory and his staff work hard to provide a supportive environment that encourages students to believe in themselves and succeed in school.
The goal of the school is to give students a positive learning experience that will lead to high school graduation.
During the reception, Greg Walker, assistant superintendent of Secondary Education, remarked on Mallory’s qualities at Gifford.
“More often than not, being a principal in an alternative setting is a thankless job” said Walker. “But Principal Mallory has always provided hope and service to the students he mentors day after day.”
