Schaumburg man pleads guilty to DUI charges

A 37-year-old Schaumburg man pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated DUI and driving on a suspended or revoked license and was sentenced to a year in prison.

Schaumburg police arrested Charles Franklin on March 11 after he crashed the vehicle he was driving into a guardrail at Roselle Road and I-90.

During his bond hearing, prosecutors said Franklin tried to flee the scene. Apprehended by the officers, he later registered a blood-alcohol level of .223, prosecutors said. The level at which an Illinois driver is presumed drunk is 0.08 percent.

Franklin had a previous DUI, and his license was revoked at the time of his arrest, prosecutors said.

In exchange for Franklin’s guilty plea, Cook County Judge Ellen Mandeltort sentenced him to one year in prison, with credit for the 86 days he has been in custody since his arrest.

Franklin must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

The charges are class 4 felonies punishable by one to three years in prison. Probation is also available.
