Kevin Costner to perform in St. Charles

Hollywood actor, director and producer Kevin Costner is also a country-rock singer, and he will perform with his band next month at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles.

Costner is pairing tour dates for Kevin Costner & Modern West with the promotion of his new TV miniseries, “Hatfields & McCoys,” said Ron Onesti, president and CEO of the Arcada. The series debuted Memorial Day on the History Channel.

The St. Charles show is the only Illinois stop listed on the band's website. “We're very, very excited,” Onesti said.

Onesti, who bought the theater about eight years ago, said he has been focusing on hosting more major shows.

“As of the last couple of years, it has really taken off from a national standpoint,” he said. “We've been hosting a lot of high-end shows, and one thing leads to another. Kevin Costner was definitely on our bucket list for top A-listers.”

The Arcada, which seats 900, recently hosted shows by Joan Rivers, Don Rickles, Martin Short, Bret Michaels, Richard Marx, Hugh Jackman and Weird Al Yankovic.

“That has really brought a lot of attention to us,” Onesti said. “Any one of these things could have been done in downtown Chicago, Los Angeles or New York. Instead, they chose to come to us.”

While the theater has become a mainstay for classic rock and oldies concerts, Onesti said he is now trying to broaden its scope.

“We've been going down the road of more contemporary stuff, really trying to be a true music venue for all ages,” he said.

The Costner show is at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the theater, 105 E. Main St. Tickets start at $69 and are available online at oshows.com or by calling (630) 962-7000. Parking is free.
