Free oral cancer detection exams offered in Algonquin
Submitted by All Smiles
Free dental examinations for early oral cancer detection through the use of the latest VELscope “blue light” technology will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the dental office of All Smiles by Dr. Audrey, 785 S. Randall Road (at Harnish Drive) in Algonquin.
In addition, the Star 105 “Rolling Radio-Star on the Streets” van will be on the premises from 2 to 4 p.m.
“Oral cancer is on the increase and over 40,000 cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States,” said Audrey Sim, DDS of All Smiles by Dr. Audrey. “By offering this simple test to members of the community, it is my goal to help in the early detection of oral cancer and save lives.”
The VELscope, recognized by the World Health Organization, is the most powerful tool in the discovery of oral abnormalities to help identify oral disease while it is still early to treat. The VELscope’s blue light stimulates natural fluorescence in the soft tissues of the mouth and allows dental professionals to see disease not visible with the naked eye.
“I find the technology offered by the VELscope to be invaluable,” Sim said. “The response from my patients who have taken the examination has been overwhelmingly positive. This two-minute exam is quick, painless and effective. There are no rinses or stains involved and it provides no discomfort or side effects to the patient.”
Because the VELscope assists in early detection, cancer can be caught before it has time to spread, potentially saving lives through less invasive, more effective treatment. The latest news and a video of the VELscope oral cancer detection examination is available at www.velscope.com.
