Don’t forget the ‘other’ One Percent

Last week on my lunch hour, I went to get a glimpse of the “Occupy” protest in the Loop. I asked a young protester, who looked ragged and eyes glazed over, “What is your message?”

“Expletive NATO and the One Percent,” he slurred. This week, I went to a wake to pay my respects to one of our fallen heroes. It was another reminder that our military and their families are the “Other” One Percent.

When I approached a young soldier in his dress uniform to thank him for his service, he shook my hand, looked me in the eye, and proudly replied, “It’s my honor, sir.”

Enough said.
