Algonquin teen charged in Crystal Lake assault

A 16-year-old Algonquin boy will be charged as an adult following his arrest for criminal sexual assault, authorities said Friday.

The victim, an 18-year-old female, told police Thursday morning about the assault, which took place at her home on the 200 block of Peterson Parkway in Crystal Lake. She said the boy is a family acquaintance, and he had been allowed access to the home, according to Crystal Lake police.

Police found the boy at the home, then took him to the police department for questioning. He was later charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, a class 1 felony, and one count of battery of an insulting and provoking nature, a misdemeanor.

He is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.
