Schaumburg neighborhood ready for 43rd annual garage sale

The decades old tradition of residents in Schaumburg’s Timbercrest and Woods subdivisions selling everything from bottles of water and clothes to cars and RVs is back weekend when the neighborhoods host their 43rd annual garage sale.

About 100 homes or groups in the subdivisions — located south of Schaumburg Road, west of Roselle Road and north of Weathersfield Way — will be participating, said Rich Gerber, a resident who helps organize the sale.

“It’s really become a unique community event,” he said.

The sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Information about what items will be sold and where is available on the sale’s website, www.timbercrestwoods.com. The site also features information about nearby restaurants, a map and details about which days which homes will be hosting their sale.

Gerber believes the sale’s success comes from its longevity and density, with hundreds of participating homes in a relatively small area.

“You could literally walk to all of them within a day easily,” he said.

This year’s sale should feature many more collectibles and antiques than in previous years, Gerber said, along with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

People from Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Chicago come to peruse the variety of items, he noted.
