Cops: Intoxicated boater crashed into pontoon, injuring woman
A woman was thrown from a boat on the Chain O’ Lakes when another boat smashed into the vehicle she was on, according to police. The driver of the boat, a 36-year-old Crystal Lake man, was charged with operating under the influence after the Saturday night collision. The woman suffered multiple severe lacerations to her face and a broken leg, police said. Full story.
Aurora attorney dies nearly 2 months after plane crash
An Aurora man who suffered third-degree burns when his experimental airplane crashed through the roof of a Florida grocery store has died from those injuries, nearly two months after the crash. Kim Presbrey, 60, was on a recreational flying trip with a Bull Valley man when the plane crashed through the roof and burst into flames inside the story on April 1. Presbrey, a prominent Aurora attorney, was being treated at Loyola University Medical Center. Full story.
Glen Ellyn girl, 16, to compete in London Olympics
A 16-year-old Glen Ellyn girl who joined a kickboxing club at age 4 is set to compete in the London 2012 Summer Games in July as the youngest of 128 athletes in the taekwondo competition. Carolena Carstens is ranked 14th in the world and fourth in the Pan-American region. She will be representing Panama, where her mother was born. Taekwondo, Carolena says, “just became a passion, and I really fell in love with it. I had been doing it for such long time, I wanted to step it up and go to the next level.” Full story.
Konerko on a tear, as White Sox continue to win
After yesterday’s 2-for-4 appearance including a 3-run homer, White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko is batting .399. The strong performance fueled the Sox as they completed a three-game sweep over the AL Central-leading Indians. During Konerko’s 13-game hitting streak, he is batting .545 with 4 doubles, 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. The home run he smacked Sunday was also the 400th of his career. Full story.
Cubs losing streak reaches 12 games
While Paul Konerko and the White Sox are playing solid baseball on the South Side, the Cubs have their own streak going — they have lost 12 games in a row. The Cubs were shelled early and often in Sunday’s 10-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The last time the Cubs won a game was May 14 in St. Louis. “Not only to not get results, but to feel like you are getting embarrassed, it is frustrating,” Cubs catcher Koyie Hill told reporters.
