Woman injured in boat crash in Fox Lake

A man has been charged with operating under the influence after the boat he was driving collided with another vessel in Fox Lake Saturday night, seriously injuring one woman, according to police.

Brian D. Yost, 36, of Crystal Lake was driving a 2000 Glastron Carson when the boat drove over the front bow of a pontoon boat on the Chain O’ Lakes at about 9:40 p.m., according to the Lake County sheriff’s department.

Six people were onboard the pontoon boat, and a 37-year-old woman was thrown into the water in Myers Bay due to the collision, police said.

Lake County Marine Deputy Rich Free and Deputy Mike Rompala pulled the woman from the lake before rescue crews arrived. She suffered severe facial lacerations and a broken leg, and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, according to police.

The woman was the only person thrown into the water, and the only person who was taken to an area hospital, according to police.

Yost was brought to Advocate Condell Medical Center by Lake County marine deputies for blood and urine tests.

The Department of Natural Resources and the Lake County marine unit are handling the investigation.

In 2011, the Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit made 47 arrests for OUI.
