Cops on the roof for Special Olympics
Patrons of the Hawthorn Hills shopping center will be greeted by Vernon Hills police officers waiting above Dunkin’ Donuts from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics of Illinois. Those donating money for the cause will receive a coupon for a free doughnut or coffee at the Dunkin’ Donuts, 700 N. Milwaukee Ave., just south of Route 60 in Vernon Hills. This is the fifth year for the “Cops on the Rooftop” event in Vernon Hills, which has raised more than $4,500 during that time. “The Special Olympics have become the ‘adopted charity’ of police departments throughout Illinois,” stated Chief Mark Fleischhauer.
