Honor servicemen, women this month

Throughout May, this country has taken the time to celebrate and honor the armed services that protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. From Military Spouse Appreciation Day to Memorial Day, we dedicate this month to recognize the servicemen and women and their families who risk their lives to defend our country.

National Military Appreciation Month allows Americans to learn about the rich history of our armed forces and honor those who have given their lives for this country. As a veteran of the Korean War, I would like to thank state Rep. Fred Crespo for serving as an advocate for all veterans in the community and around the state. Since taking office, he has been committed to improving the lives of servicemen and women across the community. His advocacy, on behalf of the armed forces, has resulted in increased resources and attention to major issues facing veterans and active duty soldiers.

I salute every serviceman and woman who has bravely defended our democracy. Service members miss birthdays, graduations and spending time with their family, and this month is only one of the many ways we can show our gratitude. I urge all residents to participate in honoring our armed forces.
