Willowbrook man gets jail, probation for child porn

A DuPage County man convicted of possessing child pornography was sentenced Thursday to six months in jail and 30 months of probation.

Robert K. Mariani, 28, of the 6100 block of Knoll Way in Willowbrook, also must register as a sex offender for life.

Mariani was charged in May 2011 after an online undercover investigation by the Wheaton Police Department, which has a child pornography unit. Authorities said he possessed several videos on his computer of girls younger than 13.

In January, Mariani pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated child pornography possession, a charge that carries a possible prison sentence of up to seven years. He was sentenced Thursday by Judge George Bakalis.

According to court records, Mariani was previously convicted of driving under the influence in DuPage County and disorderly conduct in Cook County.

He remains free on bond and is scheduled to begin his jail sentence June 7.
