Des Plaines man gets 6 years for car break-in

A Des Plaines man’s lengthy criminal record earned him a six-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty to breaking into an unlocked vehicle earlier this year in the 300 block of North Emerson Street in Mount Prospect.

Dennis Bohannan’s criminal history made him eligible for the extended sentence, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Clarke said this week.

Bohannan’s background includes numerous convictions for similar offenses. The most recent conviction came in 2007, when the 47-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison for burglary.

Mount Prospect police spotted Bohannan trying to open doors of various cars in the vicinity of Main and Thayer streets last February, prosecutors said. When officers approached, Bohannan fled, but was caught after a brief chase.

The judge ordered mandatory drug and alcohol treatment for Bohannan, who was credited for the 111 days he has spent in custody since his arrest.
