Carol Stream man made phony 911 call to evade us, cops say

A Carol Stream man is facing felony charges for calling 911 and falsely reporting a man with a gun in an effort to avoid his own arrest, police said Tuesday.

Terrell Wilson, 22, is accused of making the call about 2 a.m. Friday as officers waited with a warrant for his arrest outside a restaurant he frequents on the village’s north side.

The plan was aborted when 911 dispatchers took a report of an armed man involved in a domestic disturbance at another location, Carol Stream Police Cmdr. Ken George said. He said Wilson was arrested the next day and later confessed he called in the phony report.

“He said the only way he could get away was to call 911,” George said. “All the officers responded, and he took off.”

Wilson, of the 100 block of Elk Trail, was arrested Saturday after Carol Stream police pulled over a vehicle in which he was passenger. He picked up an additional charge after trying to prevent officers from identifying him during the stop, George said.

Court records show Wilson has prior arrests on charges of theft, battery and obstructing identification. Police said he was being sought on a warrant out of Kane County but the specific charge was not immediately clear.

George called the false 911 report “more than a nuisance.”

“It’s a danger to the officers and to the general public, even at 2 a.m.,” he said. “Anything can happen with a situation like that. It won’t be tolerated.”

Wilson remained in the DuPage County jail Tuesday on $15,000 bail. He is set to appear June 5 before Judge John Kinsella.
