Elaine Nekritz’ political timeline
1995: Ran as a Democrat for state representative in the 57th District; lost to Republican Elizabeth Coulson of Glenview.
1997-2001: Worked as a legislative aide to state Rep. Jeffrey Schoenberg, an Evanston Democrat who now is a state senator.
2002: Ran again in the 57th District, this time beating Republican Mary Childers of Des Plaines.
2004: Sponsored legislation to create the Cook County Stormwater Management Commission.
2005: Helped secure grant for completion of Levee 50 in Des Plaines
2009: Voted “no” on House rules, crossing Democratic Speaker Michael Madigan.
2011: Asked by Madigan to join House leadership.
January 2012: Appointed to chair three major committees: The Derrick Smith investigative committee, the judiciary committee and the pensions committee. Gov. Pat Quinn also named her to his pension working group.
April 2012: Hired communications consultant Ryan Keith, who cites Nekritz’ desire to “move to the next level.”
November 2012: Nekritz will face Northbrook Republican Rabbi Jonathan Greenberg in a newly shaped district that extends further into the Northwest suburbs and includes portions of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Northbrook, Palatine, Prospect Heights, Glenview and Wheeling.
