Boomers sweep Lake Erie
AVON, Ohio — The Schaumburg Boomers finished off a weekend road sweep of the Lake Erie Crushers with a 7-4 victory Sunday night.
Chad Mozingo led off the game with a walk and moved to third on Jereme Milons’ double off Lake Erie starter Mickey Jannis. Mozingo scored on a Gerard Hall groundout.
Lake Erie responded in the bottom of the inning, tying the game with 3 straight singles.
The tie didn’t last long as the Boomers came back with 3 runs in the second, all with two outs.
Nick Kuroczko reached on an infield single and was replaced on a fielder’s choice. Andrew Cohn dropped a single into center to put the Boomers back in front.
Mozingo followed with single, and a double steal put runners at second and third. Milons picked up an infield hit to score a run, and Frank Pfister also added an infield hit to cap the inning.
The Crushers pulled within 4-2 on a fourth-inning run before the Boomers began to pull away late. The lead reached 5-2 with an unearned run in the seventh and stretched to 7-2 with 2 in the eighth.
The combination of Cohn and Mozingo opened the eighth with a walk and a double before Milons knocked home another run. Hall added another RBI groundout to complete the scoring.
