Warren wins Lakes sectional: No. 1 singles star Kristiyan Trukov carried Warren to the Lakes sectional title on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Libertyville’s Ben VanDixhorn in the championship match.
The Blue Devils beat out second-place Libertyville for the title, 28-25. Grayslake North took third place with 17 points.
Trukov, VanDixhorn, Nate Campanile of Grayslake North and Wesley Stoller of Warren were the top four finishers in the singles field and all qualify for state.
In doubles action, Libertyville’s Eric Klein and Jack Springgate defeated Matt Matheny and Samuel Gudeman of Warren for the championship, 6-0, 6-4. Those two teams as well as Adam Deluga and Adam Grabowski of Libertyville and Jake Romme and Dennis Quitalig of McHenry qualify for state.
Lake Forest wins Deerfield sectional: At Deerfield, Lake Forest finished in first place with 26 points, beating out Deerfield and Highland Park, both of which scored 22 points apiece.
Deerfield’s Jason Brown won the singles championship while Zacko Brint and Danny Wynbrandt or Highland Park won the doubles title.
Carmel (10 points) and Mundelein (8 points) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the six-team field.
