VH grabs share of Prairie title
Vernon Hills 6, Antioch 3: Vernon Hills clinched a share of the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division title with the win. Jenn Claussen’s 3-run homer over the centerfield fence in the top of the eighth inning put the Cougars (21-11, 10-1 Prairie) up for good. Jordyn Comitor, Megan Meline and Anya Mollenhauer added 2 hits apiece for Vernon Hills. Meline was also the winning pitcher. She rolled up 7 strikeouts and allowed no walks in upping her record to 7-2.
Lake Zurich 13, Stevenson 5: Lake Zurich pushed hard at the end, scoring 11 of its 13 runs over the final three innings. Carlee Parsons led the way with a home run and a triple. She was 3-for-3 with 6 RBI. Kelly Neises and Maria Schroeder added 2 hits apiece for the Bears, who move to 23-9 overall and 14-2 in the North Suburban Conference Lake Division. One of Schroeder’s hits was a triple. Lake Zurich also got triples out of Christina Sandstedt and Caty Grapf. Meanwhile, pitcher Shannon McPeek got the win to up her record to 20-9. She had 4 strikeouts over seven innings. For Stevenson, Cailin Rubenstein, Lexi Yonkovic and Sara Loerch all had triples . Yonkovic also had a double, as did Morgan Manka. Both Yonkovic and Manka finished with 2 hits apiece.
Libertyville 10, Lake Forest 1: Calley Kaluzy had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, to lead the Wildcats to a big victory. Libertyville, which was up 7-1 through 3 innings and finished with 13 hits and no errors, also got 2 hits apiece out of Emily Gilbert, Tayler Oberman, Andi Katz and Lauren Vogg. Becki Schreiber was the winning pitcher.
Grayslake North 13, Woodstock North 0 (5): Kelsey Borders and Christina Freese each had 3 hits to lead Grayslake North, which improves to 21-8-1. Freese had a home run and 2 RBI while Borders had 2 doubles and rolled up 4 RBI. Kristina Gandy and Nikki Livengood added 2 hits and 2RBI each for North and Gandy also was the winning pitcher. She rolled up 5 strikeouts.
Zion-Benton 4, Mundelein 3: Four errors didn’t help Mundelein, which drops to 11-15. Abbey Rosenow had 2 hits for the Mustangs.
