Schaumburg mayor to lead bike ride Friday

With this week having been proclaimed Bike To Work Week in Schaumburg, Mayor Al Larson will lead a ride to his own workplace — village hall — beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 18. The route will begin at the Meineke Recreation Facility’s bike path at 220 E. Weathersfield Way in Schaumburg. From there, participants will ride with Larson to Beech Drive, east to Abrahamsen Park and onto Summit, and then north to the bike path entrance to the municipal grounds at 101 Schaumburg Court. “Bike to Work Week is important because it focuses attention on cycling as a viable travel alternative and, in the process, encourages people to reduce automobile usage,” Larson said.
