Schaumburg to launch Bike to Work Week
At a recent village board meeting, Village President Al Larson proclaimed May 14-20, as Bike to Work Week in Schaumburg.
At 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, Village President Al Larson will lead a ride to work. The route will begin at Meineke Recreation Facility’s bike path, 220 E. Weathersfield Way. From there, participants will ride with President Larson to Beech Drive, east on Beech to Abrahamsen Park, through Abrahamsen Park to Summit, north on Summit to the bike path entrance onto the municipal center grounds.
“Schaumburg now has 87 miles of bike path, 1,000 bike parking rack and locker spaces, bicycle racks on village trolleys, bicycle parking at the Metra Station and the Northwest Transportation Center, a community-based bicycle club, and links with each of our neighbors throughout the Chicago region.” said Village President Al Larson. “Bike to Work Week is important because it focuses attention on cycling as a viable travel alternative and, in the process, encourages people to reduce automobile usage,” Larson said.
