Blessings of liberty must continue
One of the purposes for forming our Constitution as written in the Preamble and attributed to Gouverneur Morris was that of “securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.” Recently I reflected on those words as I held my young grandson on my lap. Mindful of a $16 trillion debt which we have left to his generation and aware that debt leads to economic slavery rather than opportunity and liberty, I had to look away in shame from those innocent eyes and wonder, “What have we done to our ‘posterity’ and how will history judge us?”
