Palatine Kiwanis sponsor kite fly for kids

The Palatine Park District and the Palatine Kiwanis Club joined forces to present the second annual Kite Fly for Children at Reimer Reservoir Park on Quentin Road, between Palatine Road and Wood Street.

The event took place from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 21. More than 100 children participated, accompanied by just as many adults. Many brought their own kites and some received kites free, complements of the Kiwanis Club.

Kiwanis also provided a kite repair booth, where damaged kites were repaired by the Kiwanis kite repair experts. The Palatine Park District provided refreshments and a raffle for participants and their parents. This event was in celebration of Kiwanis One Day, when Kiwanis clubs throughout the world engage in a community service event on the same day.

Kiwanis is an international organization dedicated to community service. The Palatine club, now celebrating 52 years in Palatine, meets at Emmett’s Pub and restaurant in Palatine.
