'Aunt Dimity' author to appear at Cook Park Library May 11

Do you like mysteries? Then you won't want to miss meeting Nancy Atherton, author of the popular "Aunt Dimity" mystery novel series, at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11 at the Cook Park Library in Libertyville.

Nancy Atherton has written 13 cozy Aunt Dimity mysteries set in England. The star of these books is ghost Aunt Dimity who lived and died in England. The series centers around the adventures of the narrator, Lori Shepherd, who inherits Aunt Dimity's estate, including her blue journal. She learns that Aunt Dimity, though dead, still has plenty to say to Lori through her journal. Throughout the series, Lori finds herself solving mysteries in and around the small English village of Finch, where she now lives in Dimity's old house.

Although she has never lived there, Ms. Atherton loves England and travels there frequently. Atherton is very mysterious about her life but has disclosed that she took up writing as a way to pay off credit card debts. She was born and raised in Chicago, attended the University of Chicago and was enrolled in the PhD program, which she did not complete. She currently lives in either a plain house in Colorado Springs or a farmhouse in a rural section of Illinois.

Come hear Ms. Atherton speak on the delightful "Aunt Dimity" character as well as her latest book in the series, "Aunt Dimity and the Village Witch" which is currently No. 26 on the New York Time Bestseller List. Books will be available for purchase and signing, courtesy of Lake Forest Bookstore.

This free event is open to the public but registration is required. To register, call (847) 362-2330 or go to webres.cooklib.org. The Cook Park Library is located at 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
