South Elgin’s Kating wins 100th

South Elgin baseball coach Jim Kating recorded his 100th career win Friday when his Storm defeated Lake Park 4-0 to take two of the three Upstate Eight Valley games this week from the Lancers.

Chris Bingham (2-1) threw a 2-hitter for South Elgin (16-4, 13-3) and benefitted from 3 South Elgin runs in the fifth inning.

Ryan Ford (2-for-2, 2B), Mike Murphy (2-for-2, 3 RBI) and David Palmer (2B) led the Storm offense.

Bartlett 7, Metea Valley 3: Colin Nowak pitched 6-plus innings allowing just 1 earned run and his single in the top of the seventh inning broke a tie game into Bartlett’s favor in the Upstate Eight Valley. Nowak, who had 3 hits and 2 RBI at the plate, struck out 6 and walked 5 in running his record to 4-1 for the season. Ben Havel had 3 hist including a double and 4 RBI for the Hawks.

College baseball

Judson still alive: Cameron Balough singled in Chris Simon with the winning run as Judson beat Saint Xavier 11-10, scoring in the bottom of the 11th inning of a CCAC tournament elimination game that was suspended by bad weather on Thursday. Jordan Pemble earned the win for the Eagles (46-11). Balough was 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and Craig Lipp went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI. Judson is now in the tournament championship game and will have to beat St. Francis twice today to win the tournament.

ECC sweeps: Bob Thorson and Art Sutter picked up the wins on the mound as Elgin Community College swept a nonconference doubleheader from Carl Sandburg, 4-2 and 6-0. Thorson struck out 6 and allowed 8 hits in the opener as Matt Stevens had a double and 3 RBI and David Mutter added a double for the Spartans. In Game 2, Sutter scattered 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk. Matt Kaiser was 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and Drew Stover had a double for ECC (30-16).
