OSL Destroys Goose Nest

A mature Canadian goose has been nesting to the left of the main entrance to Our Savior Luthern Church located at 1234 North Arlington Heights Road for the last 2 to 3 weeks. The nest was protected by the church with a cordoned off area with a temporary work-area type barrier being set up with a suspended yellow plastic ribbon being installed to preserve the privacy of the nesting goose. It has been a precious site to observe this ritual of spring where geese replenish their species. The goose nest was last seen in the late evening at Our Savior Luthern Church on Friday night, April 27, 2012. When next visited on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:30PM, the nest had been removed and 3 mourning geese were observed mourning the loss of their nest. Hopefully, next year, the geese will find a protected area for nesting in a place where people appreciate their spring nesting ritual and do not disturb their nest. Hopefully, the members of Our Savior Luthern Church will pray about this issue if the geese return and will be more tolerant to future nesting efforts. Reportedly, nesting geese were seen alongside a bush in front of Barnes & Noble Bookstore at 13 West Rand Road in Arlington Heights, IL. However, this second nest sighting could not be confirmed during a drive by examination of Barnes & Noble.
