Roselle Announces Police Chief Appointment

The Village of Roselle has appointed Steven R. Herron as the new chief of police. Chief Herron will be publicly recognized by Mayor Gayle Smolinski at the May 14, 2012, Village Board Meeting. Chief Herron has served as the Village's interim police chief since December 5, 2011, following the resignation of former Police chief James Kruger in November 2011. Kruger is currently the chief of police in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Steve Herron is the retired police chief of the Woodridge, Illinois Police Department. He began his career in Woodridge as a police dispatcher in 1973 and became a police officer in 1977. After serving in the role of sergeant and deputy chief, Chief Herron was appointed the Woodridge police chief in January 2004. He served in that role until his retirement late last year. Chief Herron has remained very active on the Executive Board of the DuPage County Chiefs of Police and serves as the treasurer and chair of the DuPage Emergency Telephone Systems Board Technical and Policy Sub-committees.

“On behalf of the Village Board, I am pleased to welcome Chief Herron to Roselle,” said Mayor Smolinski. “He impressed us with his observations and recommendations as our interim chief, as well as how he fit in with our management team.”

According to Smolinski, Chief Herron has done an excellent job responding to specific citizen concerns and has shown dedication to community oriented policing. “We look forward to his professionalism and leadership for our police department,” said Smolinski.

Chief Herron has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northwood University, is a graduate from the prestigious FBI National Academy, and completed various police management training at the Southern Police Institute and Northwestern University. As an active proponent of community policing efforts, Chief Herron's career philosophy has been that success can only be achieved through the community and police working in partnership to achieve results.
