Sandstead steps in at Prospect

Former Buffalo Grove all-state guard Ashley (Sandstead) Graham has been named the girls basketball coach at Prospect High School.

Sandstead, who was also the team captain her senior year for Illinois State, has been serving as a varsity assistant to Stevenson hall of fame coach Tom Dineen, who was Sandstead’s high school coach at Buffalo Grove.

Prospect girls athletic director Jean Rezny made the announcement Friday.

“I look forward to working with Ashley,” Rezny said. “And I am confident she will continue the rich tradition of girls basketball at Prospect High School.”

Sandstead becomes only the fourth person to coach the Knights varsity team, following in the steps of Jean Walker, Mike Nocella and Martha Kelly.

Sandstead graduated from BG in 2004 after being a four-time Daily Herald all-area selection.

She left as the Bison’s No. 3 all-time leading scorer with 1,871 points and her teams were 69-30 over her final three seasons.
