McHenry sheriff’s arrest man on most wanted list

No. 6 on the McHenry County sheriff’s office most wanted list was arrested Wednesday at his residence in Chicago, officials announced Thursday.

Octavio Nunez, 37, was wanted by federal Immigrations Custom Enforcement agents for re-entry into the country and by local agencies for criminal sexual abuse and sex offender registration charges, authorities said.

The McHenry County sheriff’s office, working alongside U.S. marshals and federal immigration agents, spotted Nunez’s wife driving in a Chicago neighborhood where he was suspected to be living on Wednesday, according to police.

Authorities arrested Nunez inside his residence a short time later.

Police said Nunez was wanted on six warrants: two for violating the sex offender registry and one for resisting arrest in McHenry County; violating the sex offender registry and criminal sexual abuse by force in Kane County; and one for illegal re-entry into the country, which was issued by the federal government

Nunez’s last known address before Wednesday’s arrest was in Woodstock, according to the sheriff’s office.

Elgin police arrested Nunez in late 2010, and prosecutors charged him with attacking a 33-year-old Elgin woman in her car. Nunez told the woman he had a hotel room but needed transportation there, police said. The woman called 911 and left the line open for operators to listen before she was attacked.

Nunez was charged with seven counts of criminal sexual abuse, unlawful restraint, violation of the sex offender registry and three counts of battery.

Bail was set at $150,000, and he forfeited $13,500 by not showing up to court, according to court documents.
