Antioch wins tourney opener

Mikayla Abbeduto scored twice, as Antioch’s girls soccer team opened the Lakes invitational with a 4-1 win over Waukegan on Wednesday.

Erica Slack and Brittany Kelly also scored for the Sequoits, while Alex Fracek assisted on a pair of goals. Abbi McIlhany had an assist as well.

Lakes 3, Grayslake North 2 (PKs): The Eagles prevailed in penalty kicks to capture the opening-round game in the Lakes invite.

Leah Baker and Mikaela Brown scored in regulation for Lakes.

Grayslake North (5-5-1) got second-half goals from Sam Villwock and Sara Steinhoff. Hannah Mitchem and Katie McGrath had assists.

Richmond-Burton 3, Vernon Hills 1: Julie Pecht scored off an assist from Heidi VanderBloomer, as the Cougars lost their opening game in the Lakes invite.

Vernon Hills (5-4) trailed 2-0 at halftime.
