Let God direct you on life’s journey

“I guide you in the way of wisdom.”

— Proverbs 4:11 (NIV)

As I walked toward the kitchen, I heard a tapping noise on the living room window. I turned to see my husband motioning me to come and take a look at something he had found.

I saw a turtle patiently making its way across the street. It looked so out of place walking along the pavement of our driveway and through the blades of grass in our front yard.

I watched as my husband took the side of his shoe and gently nudged the edge of the turtle’s shell to guide it in a different direction. Before long, the turtle was safely on its way toward our back woods and the swamp. I commented to Jeff that he was a guiding angel for the lost turtle who was journeying toward the road to destruction.

Like this turtle, there are times when we move in the wrong direction and need guidance to turn us around. We need a helping hand that will point us to the right path in our situation.

When taking a walk or driving in our car, we use a road map or follow the street signs to direct our path. When traveling the road of life, the direction isn’t always clear. Thumbing through the Scriptures pages — God’s road map — will guide us to his will for our life.

God may also direct us through the wise advice of our pastor, parent, counselor, Bible teacher or a trustworthy friend. Common sense is often divine wisdom as well.

Sometimes, God will guide us by confirmation. When I believed God called me to write, I didn’t have any writing tools. Shortly after this, my sister offered me a word processor. I took this, along with some Scripture references on writing, as a confirmation that this was the direction God was leading me take.

Whatever the suggestion, we must pray about it first and feel a sense of peace within our hearts about the direction we are to take.

Making wise choices will keep us off the road to destruction and lead us to a happy, fulfilled and prosperous life.
